This tour is ideal for you, if you stay in Oia or if you do not wish to include Oia in your tour. You will see one of the most famous blue domed churches in Firostefani overlooking the volcano.
We will visit the village of Pyrgos with its castle-like medieval architecture and the 39 churches, and if you are in a walking mood, we will follow the steps up to the top of the hill to enjoy the panorama to the whole island. Pyrgos is a village whose center cannot be accessed by car. In case you find it hard to follow the steps to the top of the hill where the oldest part of Pyrgos is situated, we will drive around the village and visit Megalochori village instead, that is a more comfortable walk.
If you are interested in seeing a volcanic beach, we could have a photo opp of the red or the black beach. You will then have the chance to explore the extraordinary prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri in a guided tour of the excavation. Santorini has a long history starting, according to the up to nowadays research, about 7000 years ago and the most important settlement of the time is Akrotiri. The volcanic debris that covered it during the eruption of the 17th century BC sealed the town and preserved it in a perfect condition for about 3600 years. The excavation that is still carried out revealed a brilliant civilization with technology advanced in all aspects and especially in construction: multi-storey houses, decorated with avant-garde frescoes and equipped with a very advanced sewage network and all these. . . during the Bronze Age! Follow us on a journey to this incredible era and allow yourselves to "meet" the society that reached this high level of achievements approximately 3600 years ago!
Last but not least, we will include a stop at a winery where you are going to learn about the unique ways of viticulture, the local varieties, the traditional and modern methods of vinification and you are going to have the chance to taste some of the most famous wines of the island (or all!)
If you are interested in history, if your hobby is photography, if you prefer to get a more in-depth knowledge of a place following an off the beaten track itinerary, if you love wine, then this tour will perfectly meet your needs.
